Sabih Khan Appointed Apple’s New COO: A Global Leader with Indian Roots

Sabih Khan Appointed as Apple’s Chief Operating Officer – From Moradabad to Cupertino

Apple has officially announced Sabih Khan as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), replacing Jeff Williams in a move described as a "long-planned succession." Khan, who has been with the company for three decades, is currently serving as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations.

Starting later this month, Khan will step into his new role, continuing to report to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Williams, meanwhile, will retain responsibility for the design team and Apple Watch until his planned retirement later this year.

Who is Sabih Khan?

Sabih Khan was born in 1966 in Moradabad, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. During his early years, his family relocated to Singapore and later moved to the United States, where Khan pursued higher education.

He holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), New York.

A 30-Year Journey at Apple

Khan began his professional career at GE Plastics, working as an applications development engineer and technical lead. He joined Apple in 1995 as part of its procurement group, gradually rising through the ranks.

Over the years, Khan has played a pivotal role in shaping Apple’s global supply chain and operations strategy. His leadership was especially visible during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he helped realign the company’s supplier network to adapt to global disruptions.

In 2019, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations, reporting directly to Jeff Williams. In this position, he led efforts to build sustainable partnerships, promote green manufacturing, and expand Apple’s operational footprint worldwide.

Praise from Tim Cook

Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Sabih Khan as a “brilliant strategist” and “a key architect of Apple’s supply chain.” According to Cook, Khan has been instrumental in:

  • Advancing manufacturing technologies
  • Scaling Apple’s U.S. production efforts
  • Driving the company’s environmental initiatives

“Sabih leads with his heart and values. I’m confident he will be an outstanding Chief Operating Officer,” said Cook.

Notably, under Khan’s leadership, Apple achieved a remarkable 60% reduction in its carbon footprint — a milestone reflecting his commitment to environmental responsibility.
