Bihar’s Largest Private Power Investment: 2400 MW Plant Proposed in Pirpainti

In a major development for Bihar's power sector, four leading private power companies have expressed interest in setting up a 2,400 MW thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur.

The interested companies include:

  • Adani Power
  • JSW Energy
  • Torrent Power
  • Lalit Power (part of the Bajaj Group)

The proposed project will consist of three units of 800 MW each, to be developed across 1,200 acres of land. With an estimated investment of ₹28,000 crore, this will become the largest private sector investment in Bihar’s power sector to date.

This initiative marks a significant step in boosting energy infrastructure in eastern India and is expected to generate substantial employment and support economic growth in the region.

Once operational, the 2,400 MW plant will greatly enhance power availability in Bihar, improving grid stability and supporting industrial expansion across the state.
